Biometric characteristic

A biometric characteristic is a single biological output from the body possessing a distinct pattern. A brainwave pattern of any type counts, as does the distinct set of neural impulses sent down the spine to lift the left leg. A fingerprint is a unique biometric characteristic in that no two are the same. An iris pattern or DNA sample also count.

Each is a single piece of data either unique to a given individual, or similar across individuals but carrying out the same function on all of them. Either way, it carries enough identifying information about either who the individual is, or their desired actions, to be actionable via a computer system.
